A NUMBER of events are being held in Caerphilly to celebrate Black History Month.
In the UK, October is Black History Month, which aims to recognise the history, experiences and accomplishments from within BME communities.
It has been celebrated in Britain since 1987, with a number of events held throughout Wales to recognise the positive impact that people of African descent have had and continue to have on the culture and history of Wales.
Caerphilly County Borough Council are hosting an exhibition, at Penallta House in Ystrad Mynach, featuring profiles of prominent Welsh black people and providing facts about Black History Month.
The exhibition will be on display from October 16 until October 19.
Trade union, Unison, will also be holding two screenings of Selma: The Bridge to Ballot; a documentary that encapsulates the struggles of black people, in a small town in deep south USA, to get a right to vote.
These screenings will be held in the Council Chamber 12pm on October 16, and 1pm on October 19.
A quiz is also being held where council staff will be given the opportunity to win a voucher for Caribbean restaurant Turtle Bay in Cardiff, donated by Unison.
