WE HAVE had hundreds of entries already for our Gwent's Prettiest Pets competition, but there is still time to submit your entry.

Following the success of last year, Gwent's Prettiest Pet Competition is returning for 2018, with two winning spots up for grabs for animal lovers.

The winners will get a painted pet portrait, worth £170, by Welsh artist Christopher Langley, who will be on the judging panel.

Mr Langley is a well known artist, adept at portraits of people and animals, and has featured in Inside Artists magazine, on S4C, and on BBC, among others.

A public vote will determine the other winner, who will also get a pet portrait by Mr Langley, who has an ongoing exhibition at Hortons Coffee House in Newport

The competition is not specific to any animal, so whether you have a bubbly budgie or a slithering snake, whether they have a wagging tail or big floppy ears, send your photo for a chance to win.

Last year, both winner's were cats. The public vote favoured Celli, who was entered by Emily Boshein from Cwmbran, with the judging panel choosing Bailey, an 11-year-old ragdoll, sent by Sylvia Briffett and her granddaughter Elle Wilks, from Rogerstone.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, November 15.

When submitting a photo please include your name, address, daytime telephone number, and your pet's name.

This can be done by emailing: newsdesk@southwalesargus.co.uk

Alternatively, submissions can be posted to: Pretty Pet Portrait Competition, Newsdesk, South Wales Argus, Cardiff Road, Maesglas, Newport NP20 3QN.

Entry is free, so you'd be barking mad not to enter.

Please note that hard copies of photos will not be returned, and the decision of the judging panel is final.
