A spokesman for Gwent Police confirmed they attended an accident on the M4 westbound between J28 and J29.
South Wales Fire and Rescue also attended the scene.
"There are no road closures currently in place, and there are no obstructions on the motorway.
"Some injuries are believed to have been sustained, but the nature of them is unclear at this moment.
"Those with injuries are believed to be receiving treatment in hospital."

Tailbacks on the M4 westbound are now being reported as far back as J24 Coldra.

A CRASH on the M4 is causing long tailbacks around Newport.
The westbound exit ramp at J28 A48 Forge Road (Tredegar Park) is reported to be "partially blocked", with congestion stretching all the way back to the Brynglas Tunnels.
Traffic monitors report lane one (of three) on the main carriageway is blocked, and part of the exit slip road is restricted at the top before you head down to the roundabout.
The average speed on the M4 is now now to 15mph because of congestion caused by the accident.
