New Zealand maintained their perfect record in Pool C of the World Cup with a routine 40-0 victory over a second-string Scotland side at Murrayfield.

Scotland coach Frank Hadden left most of his key players in the stands in a bid to keep them fresh for the crucial match with Italy in St Etienne on Saturday, which will decide who reaches the quarter-finals.

His under-strength team defended bravely and, although offering little in attack, as an exercise in damage limitation it was reasonably successful.
