When Andrew Taylor, Secretary of Caerleon Running Club, volunteered to run next month's Cardiff Half Marathon for the Alzheimers Society, he was at a loss to think of an imaginative way to raise some sponsorship money.
But he didn't have to wait long for inspiration.
Whilst on a practice run he went past a giant billboard advertising the new comedy film, Run Fatboy Run!' and he decided to ask for a private showing of the film at the City Cinema, Newport, specifically for members of all the local running clubs.
Andrew said, "The management of City Cinema couldn't have been more amenable. Last Wednesday night we had sole use of one of their studios and it was a full house, with a terrific turnout from members of Chepstow Harriers, Lliswerry Runners, Islwyn Running Club, Griffithstown Harriers, Fairwater Runners and Caerleon Running Club - raising over £150.
"As there was a running theme in the film, we asked members of the clubs to come to the showing in their running vests. So it was quite a colourful spectacle.
"It was a really good night, and everyone seemed to enjoy the film. It had lots of funny moments as well as some romance - which just goes to prove how attractive runners are to the opposite sex!"
Around 14,000 athletes will be taking on the Cardiff Half Marathon on 14th October.
