THE family of a Newport man killed in a motorbike crash say they are overwhelmed by tributes brought to his grave to mark his birthday.

Popular father-of-two Rory Kilgannon, 36, from Birch Hill, Malpas died after the Kawasaki 1000cc motorbike he was riding was in collision with a Suzuki 600cc motorbike on Father's Day, Sunday June 17.

He was leading a five-bike convoy which included his brother Kieron and father Vince.

Plant operator Mr Kilgannon and the rider of the other bike, Polish national Grzegorz Majewski, 29, of Hereford, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened at about 3.20pm on the A49 at The Callow, Herefordshire.

Mr Kilgannon would have celebrated his 37th birthday on Wednesday.

His brother, who was riding directly behind Mr Kilgannon, told the Argus the family were overwhelmed by the number of floral and other tributes left at Mr Kilgannon's graveside in St Woolos Cemetery this week.

He said they were a "fantastic help" to the family.

"We went up ourselves and opened a bottle of bubbly just to mark his birthday," said the 35-year-old from Malpas.

"It looks absolutely lovely - people have just been bringing them up all week - people I haven't seen since school, it's just unbelievable.

"We just want to thank everyone who brought the tributes - friends and family here and Ireland."

Mr Kilgannon, described as "a gentle giant" by his family, leaves a daughter Sydney, aged four and an eight-year-old son, Jake.

It's understood an investigation into the incident by West Mercia Police is ongoing.
