EVERYONE has memories of the famous Pontypool Front Row, the titan three that took the rugby pitch by storm in the 1970s.

Julie Robinson, 45, of Talywain, is so proud of her local heroes and friends that she has named the new bar in her pub the Cons Inn, Commercial Road, Talywain, in their honour.

Mrs Robinson gave the bar a star kick off on Saturday night - Graham Price, Charlie Faulkner and Bobby Windsor were all present to christen the revamped room with a pint.

So many people begged Mrs Robinson to join the stars that she had to make the party invite-only in the interest of health and safety.

She said: "There's been so much local interest in the bar - people have been begging for an invite.

"My daughter put the party up on the Facebook website and 14,000 people said they wanted to come!"

Mrs Robinson took over the pub over in May and has spent around £8,000 revamping the back room into a space dedicated to sports memrobillia including shirts, photographs, and a signed John Hughes' Grogg.

She said that her inspiration came from a Carmarthenshire pub she visited two years ago.

Mrs Robinson said: "They had Front Row memrobillia all over the walls, it made me so proud walking in there and I thought it was a shame that nothing had been done for them locally.

Star hooker Bobby Windsor has been a local at the Cons Inn for 20 years and is also pleased with the changes Mrs Robinson has made.

He said: "Julie's worked really hard to collect all the memoribilla. There's lots of photographs of us on the walls.

"My two favourites are the photos of us when we played for Wales and for the British Lions for the first time - they bring back a lot of memories."
