THE NEW golf driving range at Parc Bryn Bach, Tredegar has officially opened its doors.

The six-bay range is set to be in full swing by Spring next year, when the accompanying nine-hole golf course should also be up and running.

The new £1m golf facilities are part of a wider project to transform Parc Bryn Bach, which has already benefitted from a new BMX track, cyclo-cross track and mountain bike trail over the past 18 months.

The golf development programme has been funded by Sportlot Lottery funding, the Steelworks Regeneration and Tourism regeneration Package, the Welsh Assembly Government Heads of the Valleys Programme and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.

Councillor Ainsley Morgan, Mayor of Blaenau Gwent, opened the range, with Dragon Sports groups and pupils from Tredegar Comprehensive on hand to test out the new facillity.

Head of PE at Tredegar Comprehensive school, Jamie Howells said: "We took 12 of our pupils along and they did some demonstrations.

"They really enjoyed it and liked the new range.

"I think it will be a really good facility for beginners and up and comming golfers."

Councillor Nigel Daniels, Executive Member for Leisure and culture, added: "Golf is a hugely popular sport, and acts as a major draw for both local people and tourists.

"These new facilities at Parc Bryn Bach add yet another dimension to the huge range and quality of leisure attractions offered at the park."
