A LABOURER kicked in the door of a neighbour's house and woke up a terrified woman, Cardiff crown court heard.

Gareth Lloyd, 21, was looking for a man who he believed had smashed windows at the home of his mother.

Lloyd of Machine Meadows, Pontnewydd, Pontypool, was jailed for 18 months, after pleading guilty to a charge of burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Recorder Paul Lewis, QC said "In the dead of night you forced your way into a house and burst into a bedroom with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm".

Prosecutor Peter Heywood, said that Lloyd believed Daniel Black had smashed his mother's windows and he broke into the home of Donna Edmunds, in an effort to find him, but he was not there.

When the police were called three officers had trouble restraining him and had to spray him with CS gas.

He said that if Black had been there he would have offered "serious bodily harm".

His council Carl Williams said the two men had had "an ongoing spat".

The pair had since shaken hands and buried the hatchet.

"Normally he is a hard working, industrious, fit young man.

He had suffered depression for many years since a tragic death in the family. This offence was totally out of character"
