RISCA police station has now re-opened after ten months of refurbishment work.

New facilities at the station and temporary accommodation while work was done cost a total of £800,000.

They include a disabled access area, more parking spaces a new reception, IT systems, new lifts, energy efficient heating systems and new lockers and shower rooms for officers.

The original features of the station were also cleaned and treated so the stonework and fascia of the station' s exterior has retained its character.

The station will be open to the public between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday but officers will work from the station 24 hours a day.

Risca Police Inspector Richard Brake is confident members of the public will be pleased with the results.

He said: "We are pleased to be back in Risca and I would like to thank the community and local traders of Risca for their patience during the refurbishment process.

"I am also grateful to the community of Cwmcarn for accommodating us during the works. "The refurbished station provides us, and the people of the area, with excellent facilities for policing into 21st century."
