A BRAVE Newport woman who continued to raise money for charity throughout her fight against cancer has died.

Dawn Jones, 42, of Duffryn was involved in raising money in a variety of ways including having her hair shaved for St David's Foundation Hospice Care.

She leaves husband Nicky, three children- Kelly, Martin and Nicky as well as five step children Charlotte, David, Samantha and twins Nathan and Stephen.

Mrs Jones was first diagnosed with bowel cancer two years ago and had polyps removed, but the symptoms came back last year and scans revealed she had a tumour in the wall of the bowel.

Even though she had to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy, her first instinct was to help others.

"I thought I'm going to lose my hair anyway so why not raise some money while I'm at it?'," said Mrs Jones at the time.

After having it shaved off in a Pill pub, she raised around £1,000 for the St David's Foundation and donated her ponytail to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs and hairpieces for children with cancer.

One of her favourite past times was singing on karaoke and Mrs Jones would sing songs by her favourite artist Meatloaf at a variety of pubs in the area. Her favourite track was Paradise by the Dashboard Light.

Her step daughter Samantha Jones said: "She was such a good woman and throughout her fight with cancer still raised money for charities by doing things like having her hair cut off.

"She shocked doctors with her fighting spirit and they said that she had a young body for her age."

Mrs Jones funeral took place yesterday.
