A MUSIC group from Torfaen who performed at the Plymouth Proms are organising an Armistice concert in Griffithstown.

MelloD are a ladies harmony singing ensemble who have performed for a variety of audiences from the Isle of Wight to Oxford and West Wales to London.

They recently performed at the Plymouth Proms, after being hand-picked by the event’s organiser.

Group member Christine Bartholomew said: “We had a fabulous weekend. It was amazing.

“The atmosphere at the concert was truly memorable. There must have been more than 1,000 people there.

“We have performed in front of that many people before, but because of the occasion it really was something else.”

Following their performance in Plymouth, the group are also organising their annual Armistice Concert at St Hilda’s Church.

This year there will be performances from Griffithstown Primary School Choir and Pontypool Male Voice Choir, Baritone Jake and a musical ensemble from St Alban’s school, as well as from special guest compere Lorna Pearson.

“It’s always a really great concert,” said Mrs Bartholomew. “Because this year is the centenary of the end of the First World War, we are hoping to make this year’s concert extra special.

“We done a lot of research this year, and we have got a wider range of performers, so hopefully it will shine through.”

The concert will be held at St Hildas Church in Griffithstown on Friday, November 9 at 7pm.

Tickets cost £7 to be paid on the door and all proceeds will go to Pontypool Poppy Appeal.
