DUTCH jazz and pop chanteuse Caro Emerald’s York Barbican show tonight is heading for a sell-out but tickets are still available.

Emerald will be performing songs from her Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor and The Shocking Miss Emerald albums and last year’s Emerald Island EP.

Listen out too for Caro's fabulous cover of Camila Cabello’s 2018 hit Havana, as aired at her Harrogate International Centre show on October 6 earlier in the tour.

"We always add to the set list, so it will be different from the Emerald Island tour, but you have to play the big hits and some other favourites as it would be a shame not to play them," says Caro.

"There will be new arrangements, new songs, and what we're also doing on this tour is going for a new look with a new concept for the show; evoking Cuban back streets, jazz clubs; maybe New Orleans, maybe Havana, maybe both; maybe Harlem...we will use different inspirations!

"We put a lot of effort into the look of the show, with the visual guys designing completely new visuals."

Think jazz club, not cabaret, says Caro. "Cabaret? No! You'd be expecting me to tell jokes, when it's more real than that, though I do talk about songs.

"It's like a party, everyone looking good at a club and up on their feet dancing at the end," she adds.

Caro has been working with her regular stylist, Renske Cramer, on her typically striking outfits for her stage show. "She'll make lots of mood boards; I'll show her images of the atmosphere I want to create or send her pictures of a skirt I've seen, so we use ideas from both of us, which is really nice," she says.

"It's co-operative, the way everything is with how I work; the music and the designs."

Tickets can be booked on 0844 854 2757, at yorkbarbican.co.uk or in person from the Barbican box office. Doors open at 7pm.
