A POP-UP street food market, featuring new traders each week, is running every weekend in Newport in the run-up to Christmas.

Stow Hill Market, based in an indoor 7,000 square foot dance hall on Stow Hill, will run every Friday and Saturday, until December 22.

The pop-up market, run by Cardiff-based company Depot, will offer different delicacies each week, along with craft beer and cocktails and their Upstairs Attic Bar.

Depot already organises the popular Bingo Lingo events at The Neon, on Clarence Place, but this is the first food event it has brought to Newport.

Event manager of Depot, Meg Richards, said: “The first weekend of Depot’s Market on Stow Hill went really, really well. There was a great turnout, there were no problems and the traders were happy.

“The traders will be different week, and we’ve tried to include vegan traders, or stalls with vegan options, so keep an eye out.

“There is live entertainment, including rugby, which is why last week’s Saturday one started at 12pm. This Saturday it will open from 2pm."

Each week the line-up traders will change, with updates posted on social media throughout the week. Children are welcome, before 8pm, but must have adult supervision.

Entry before 6.30pm is free, with a £1 charge later in the evening.

“If this pop-up is popular, we’d love to bring more events to Newport,” added Ms Richards.

“We like to do things locally, and Newport seemed a little lacking in street food events, so we’re happy to bring them there.”
