NEWPORT'S annual Remembrance Day parade and service will take place on Sunday, November 11, in the city centre.

Here is the order of events for these centenary commemorations.

Parade commander RSM Mathew Years of the 104 Regiment Royal Artillery will start the parade at 10.35am at the top of High Street.

The Boys Brigade band will lead the parade followed by a procession of standard bearers, ex-servicemen, and the Royal British Legion.

The mayor and mayoress – Councillor Malcolm Linton and Mrs Sharon Linton – led by two mace bearers from Newport Sea Cadets, will then lead councillors, other associations, armed forces personnel, the emergency services and youth groups.

The VIP party will then approach the cenotaph and take up position.

The service, led by the Reverend Canon Stephen James, will take place at Newport cenotaph at 10.58am, with the guns sounding at 11am to mark the start of the two-minute silence.

After the two-minute silence, a wreath-laying ceremony will be led by the lord lieutenant – Brigadier Robert Aitken – along with the mayor, the high sheriff, representatives of the Royal British Legion, and other veterans

They will be followed by Newport City Council leader, Councillor Debbie Wilcox; leader of the opposition, Cllr Matthew Evans; Jessica Morden MP, AMs Jane Bryant, John Griffiths and Mohammed Asghar; as well as representatives from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, the Merchant Navy, the police, South Wales Fire Service, South Wales Ambulance as well as the Police and Crime Commissioner and representatives of other organisations attending.

After the service the lord lieutenant, the mayor, the CO of the 104 Regiment, with the VIP party will walk over to the dais to take the salute from the parade as it walks past.

The parade will be dismissed from High Street.

Newport City Council is hosting the event and warns that road closures will be in place from 7am until noon on parade day.

Road closures will affect the following streets:

High Street; Upper Dock Street (from Skinner Street to the Old Green roundabout), Old Green roundabout, slip road to Old Green roundabout from Kingsway, slip road to Old Green roundabout from Wyndham Street, Town Bridge (both directions), Clarence Place (both directions), Caerleon Road from Clarence Place to Church Road, Chepstow Road from Clarence Place to Cedar Road, Corporation Road from Clarence Place to St Vincent Road, and East Usk Road from Clarence Place to Tregare Street.
