GALE force winds could hit Gwent tomorrow, the Met Office has warned.

An updated warning has been issued for Friday, predicting strong winds and heavy rain, particularly after 1pm.

Some areas may experience flooding and short-term power-loss as a result, whilst drivers should be cautious whilst navigating wet roads, the warning says..

It adds: "A band of heavy rain is expected to move east during Friday with widely 15-25 mm of rain falling and perhaps 50 mm over higher ground.

"This will be in addition to other spells of heavy rain earlier in the week affecting a similar area. Rain will be accompanied by strong winds with gusts of 50 mph possible inland and perhaps 60 mph around some coasts."

The Argus reported that a yellow weather warning had been in place across the region, earlier this week.

The weather warning applies throughout Wales, including Newport, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly.

It lasts until 11.59pm on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 13 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
