On Sunday villages, towns and cities all over the country will be commemorating Armistice Day. Reporter NICHOLAS THOMAS details a selection of Remembrance Day parades and services taking place

ABERCARN: A remembrance service will be held at the war memorial in Market Square at 10.45am.

ABERGAVENNY: A parade will leave the Market Hall at 10.40am and march to the cenotaph for a service. Afterwards, a “tea with the troops” will be held in the Priory Centre at St Mary’s Church.

ABERTILLERY: A parade will assemble at 10.15am at the top end of Church Street and arrive at the war memorial at 10.45am, and then at 11.15am will march to the Salvation Army Citadel for a church service.

BEAUFORT: A parade will leave the Beaufort Theatre at 1.30pm and march to the cenotaph for a remembrance service at approximately 1.55pm.

BEDWAS: At 10.45am, a parade will march from Bedwas Junior School to the cenotaph on Newport Road. Afterwards, at 11.15, there will be a remembrance service at St Thomas’ Church, Trethomas.

BLACKWOOD: A service will be held at the Moose Hall at 10am, followed by wreath-laying at the Blackwood war memorial at 10.45am, and service in Market Place at 11am.

BLAENAVON: A parade will leave Broad Street car park at 10.15am and march through the town centre to the cenotaph for an 11am service.

BLAINA: A parade will leave at 2.10pm from Garn Cross, Nantyglo, proceeding to the war memorial in Central Park, Blaina, for a service of remembrance at 2.45pm. The parade will then re-form and march to the Institute/Library, High Street, Blaina, before being dismissed outside Blaina Institute/Library Building. Afterwards, refreshments will be available in the Yew Tree West Side Blaina.

BRYNMAWR: At 10.15am, a parade will leave the Legion Club on Beaufort Street to the Market Hall cinema. Afterwards, the parade will re-assemble at 11.40am on Alma Street to march to the cenotaph for wreath-laying. Refreshments will be provided afterwards at the Legion Club.

CALDICOT: A parade will assemble at 10am on Jubilee Way and march to the Cross for an 11am service. A sunset service will begin at the Cross at 4pm.

CHEPSTOW: A parade will assemble by 10.25am in the Welsh Street car park, before marching to the war memorial. Afterwards, refreshments will be served in the Chepstow Club.

CWMBRAN: Parade assembles behind Council House on Ventnor Road at 10.10am before marching to Cwmbran Park for a service and wreath-laying ceremony. At 11.15am the parade will re-form in Henllys Way and march to St Gabriel's church.

EBBW VALE: A parade will assemble in Bethcar Street near Wetherspoons at 10.15am, and will march to the war memorial for a service of remembrance, which will commence at 10.50am. After the service, the parade will re-form and march back up Libanus Road, with the salute being taken in Market Street.

MACHEN: At 10.20am, a parade will assemble in the car park before marching to St John’s Church for a 10.50am service. The parade will then march to the cenotaph for a service.

MONMOUTH: A parade will leave the Monnow Bridge at 10.30 and pass the Shire Hall on the way to the war memorial for a service. Afterwards, a service will be held at the Priory Church of St Mary the Virgin.

NEWBRIDGE: A parade will head to the Tabernacle Church at 9.30am for a service. The parade will then march to the cenotaph for wreath-laying at 11am.

NEWPORT: The parade will start on the High Street at 10.30am and march to the cenotaph for a service. The service will take place at Newport cenotaph at 10.58am, with the guns sounding at 11am to mark the start of the two-minute silence. After the two-minute silence, a wreath-laying ceremony will be led by the lord lieutenant, Brigadier Robert Aitken.

PONTNEWYDD: A 10.30am parade will march from Pontnewydd Royal British Legion to the cenotaph.

PONTYPOOL: A parade will assemble on Commercial Street at 11.45am for a midday start. The parade will march to the memorial gates and return via the Clarence roundabout.

RISCA: A 9.30am service at St Mary’s Church will be followed by a service at the cenotaph.

ROGERSTONE: At 10.15am, a parade will assemble at Rogerstone library and march to the war memorial, before marching at 10.45am from Tregwilym Road to St John’s Church for a service, and then marching at 11.45am to Tydu Community Hall.

TREDEGAR: A parade will march at 10.15am from St George’s Church to the war memorial for an 11am start.

USK: At 10.30am, a tree from the Mametz Wood in Belgium will be planted in the castle grounds. A parade will leave the Royal British Legion at 2.30pm for a 3pm service at St Mary’s Church.
