A YOUTH Theatre is welcoming potential new members to join them for a taster session.

Caerphilly Youth Theatre gives young people, aged 14-19, the chance to discover the performing arts and to take part in annual productions.

15-year-old, Niall Humphryes, has been a member of the youth theatre for a few weeks, and said: "I’m really enjoying being a part of such a friendly group and I’m hoping that Caerphilly Youth Theatre will allow me to gain more experience by taking part in shows, meeting professionals and taking part in workshops to try new things and gain new skills.

"If you’re thinking of coming along, but feeling nervous, don’t worry! This is a very welcoming group.”

In recent years, the youngsters have performed The Addams Family and Grease, with them also taking part in an annual performance of Wings to Fly.

This hard-hitting play warns thousands of primary school children about the dangers of drugs.

"I've been a member of Caerphilly Youth Theatre for many years," added 17-year-old Lauren Olsen.

"The highlight for me has been taking part in Wings to Fly, as the reaction from each audience is incredible. If you want to gain experience in performance, boost your confidence whilst having fun, then just do it, come along and find out what it’s all about.”

The taster sessions will be at Blackwood Miners' Institute on November 12, with a Welsh language group 6pm-7pm, and English language group 7pm-8pm.

The taster sessions are free, but booking is essential. To book your place, email: artsdevelopment@caerphilly.gov.uk
