Today it is an old pic of Caerleon Common, not changed that much except for closed pubs. Very bust with traffic now and could possibly get worst if the old College is developed for housing. Great loss for Caerleon.

Today we see Goldcroft Common in Caerleon. This has been used in recent years for a travelling fun fair, the Caerleon Christmas tree and other community activities. On the right is High St and on the left are Goldcroft Cottages. In the past, many market towns had either greens or very wide areas in the centre of the town, these were where cattle drovers kept their animals overnight while on their long journey from farm to slaughter. This is evident in Caerleon as there were four pubs - the White Hart, the Goldcroft, the Angel and the Drovers Arms. Drovers were licensed, they worn a diamond shaped badge on their sleeve and they were also entrusted to carry money for people. Caerleon was the famous fortress city of Isca Silurum, home of the 2nd Augustan Legion and many of their relicts are to be found in the Legionary Museum just behind the cameraman's right shoulder.
