A MAN has appeared in court after a woman was shot in the head with a pellet gun on Remembrance Day.

Lloyd Williams, 35, of Summerhill Avenue, Newport appeared in Newport Magistrate's Court this morning (Tuesday, November 12) to answer charges of grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.

He denied one count of GBH and was remanded in custody to appear in Newport Crown Court on December 11.

Gwent Police have confirmed that armed officers responded to reports of a woman in being shot in the head in Medway Court, Bettws, Newport, with what was believed to be an pellet gun at around 7.05pm on Sunday, November 11.

A 32-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life serious or life threatening.

Witnesses told the South Wales Argus that armed police were hunting for a suspect in the Bettws area.

They later arrested Mr Williams on suspicion of violence against a person.
