A CAR burst into flames on the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge this morning after hitting the central reservation.

Gwent Police confirmed the crash happened at around 9.35am today (Wednesday, January 9).

A blue Vauxhall Vectra hit the central reservation of the motorway and caught fire.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the bridge's eastbound carriageway, but no serious injuries were reported.

Debris on the road affected the westbound carriageway too, and traffic officers held traffic across all six lanes for more than half an hour while the incident was dealt with.

Drivers reported sitting in their cars with engines switched off while the incident unfolded.

All lanes were reopened by 10.30am.
