A POPULAR underground map which labels all of Newport's areas and most famous landmarks is popping up all over the city.

The Newport Underground Map, which resembles an underground, depicts six lines - Isca, Westgate, Usk, Norman and Castle, John Frost and Morgan - as well as more than 100 different stations in Newport.

The different stations consist of iconic buildings and areas, such as the Celtic Manor, Ye Olde Murenger House, Bassaleg Road, Christchurch Road and the Royal Gwent Hospital.

Ashley Connor, who owns Simple Sheep Design, created the map and revealed it has become one of his best selling items.

"I have a design stall online where I sell prints," he said.

"I had wanted to create a map of Newport for quite a while. And as lots of my work is inspired by travel, I designed the Newport Underground Map.

"Before I created it I knew the map would have to be different and that it needed to stand out from the rest.

"So the map is a mix of Newport, travel and an underground."

He added: "It is one of my best selling items and I have seen it across Newport."

Mr Connor said meticulous work went into the design to ensure major areas in the vicinity were covered.

"I decided to name the lines after important things or people in the area. For instance, the Morgan line is after the Morgan family who were the lords of Tredegar.

"The maps covers all four corners of Newport.

"I really enjoyed designing it."

And the 29-year-old revealed that customised versions of the map are now up for grabs from his online store for the first time.

"Now you can have the map customised as you wish," he said.

"If you want me to, I can add your home, favourite place, business or wedding venue for example.

"I think this is a good idea because people will never forget some of their happiest or most memorable moments by having them put on the Newport Underground Map."
