A POLICE appeal has been launched after a car was deliberately set on fire and destroyed.
A Volkswagen Golf was torched in the early hours of the morning in Roding Close, Bettws.
Residents in the area have slammed the culprits for destroying someone's vehicle.
Sally Davies said: "I saw flames at about 4.30am - they were huge.
"I came out and saw that the a car had been put on fire.
"Someone could have been killed."
And Betty Lewis, who also lives in Bettws, added: "Who ever has done this should be put in prison.
"The car has been ruined and left outside. Thank goodness no one was in there because they could have been killed."
A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said the force is now appealing for information.
"At approximately 4am on Thursday, January 10 2019, Gwent Police received a report of a vehicle on fire.
"The silver Volkswagen Golf was empty at the time it was parked on the street. A Fiat Punto was also damaged. No-one was injured. We are currently treating the fire as deliberate and enquiries are on-going.
"If you have any information or if you may have seen anything suspicious at the time, please call Gwent Police on 101 or direct message on Facebook or Twitter quoting log number 39 10/01/19 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
