THE weekend is almost here, and there is plenty of fun to be had throughout Gwent.

Here are some events and activities we think you might enjoy.

  • Risca Male Voice Choir are ‘singing the movies’ at Newbridge Memo from 7pm this Saturday.

South Wales Argus:

They will sing some spectacular songs from some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, joined by special guests, including: Sarah Jayne Hopkins and Dan Thomas of Duality, Olly Thompson on percussion, and acclaimed baritone Andrew Jenkins.

  • Still looking for a resolution for 2019?

Hot Yoga Health, based on North Street in Newport, are hosting an introduction to hot yoga for beginners on Saturday.

This will be from 11am to 12.15pm, with detailed instruction from Sarah Davies.

This is £8 and welcomes anyone - you don’t have to be fit and flexible.

  • If yoga doesn’t float your boat, what about volunteering?

Beechwood Park Group Community (BPG) are hosting a meeting on Saturday from 10.30am. This will be in Beechwood Park community rooms, with all welcome to pop along and find out more.

  • Newportonian songwriter and singer, Selena in the Chapel, will take centre-stage at Cellar Door, on Clytha Park Road, this Sunday.

She will be bringing her beautiful blend of soul, RnB and pop to the venue from 7pm to 9pm.

This talented musician performed at Newport's Christmas light switch on last month, which you can read about here.

 
  • For those further afield, an insane evening of rock music is coming to The Dolls House in Abertillery this Saturday.

This musical mayhem is proudly presented by Blind Destruction Records, with performances by: Subhumans, In Evil Hour, Burning Flag, Social Experiment and System Reset.

The doors open at 6.30pm, with the first band kicking off at 7pm. Tickets are £10 in advance, available through: http:/fatso.ma/uXmn or £12 in the door.
