A POPULAR Indian restaurant in Cwmbran has been given a zero-hygiene rating.

Tiffins Indian Buffet Restaurant, which is along Glyndwr Road, Cwmbran has been given the rating following an inspection by a food safety officer at the establishment last month.

The officer concluded that "major improvement was necessary" for both hygienic food handling and management of food safety, and that "improvement" was also necessary for cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

The newly published rating means that major improvements are necessary in the areas of food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, food safety management and system checks.

Businesses given ratings of zero are told that they must make urgent or major improvements to hygiene standards. The local authority food safety officer will use a number of enforcement tools as well as giving advice and guidance to make sure these improvements are made.

The food safety officer will also inform the business how quickly these improvements must be made and this will depend on the type of issue that needs to be addressed.
