A NEWPORT chef has secured a place in the final stages of a national culinary competition.
Daniel Britton, 21, who works at the Celtic Manor Resort in the city, is one of four in the final of the Junior Chef of Wales competition, part of the Welsh International Culinary Championships (WICC).
Mr Britton will join two returning faces in Oliver Thompson, 20, of The Bull, Beaumaris, and Thomas Martin, 22, of 13 Market Street, Caerphilly. Both were finalists in last year’s competition and have returned for another chance at winning the title.
The fourth finalist is Sion Hughes, 20, of Carden Park, Chester.
To reach the final the chefs were given three hours to cook and serve up a three-course menu for four people using a majority of Welsh products.
Mr Gray, chairman of the judges, said: “There was some very competent cooking across the board even though they were in a different kitchen environment.”
