ALMOST 30 trolleys have recovered after being abandoned in Pontypool Park in the last few weeks.

Between Saturday and Thursday last week, the Pontypool Park Friends collected seven trolleys, which had been left in the park and dumped in the river.

Jeannette Fry, secretary of the Pontypool Park Friends, said that littering and dumping was becoming an increasing problem in the park.

She said: “A few weeks ago, we had collected nine trolleys that had been dumped in the park.

“Over the last couple of weeks, we had collected even more. There were 21 by last Sunday and we found eight more before they were collected on Thursday.

“On the Saturday alone, we took five trolleys out of the river.

“They are definitely an eyesore and the situation has gradually got worse. We have had increasing problems with rubbish.

“Lots of people are starting to complain about it.

“We have found a TV that had been thrown in the pond and bags of wallpaper that someone had dumped in the park. People seem to make an effort to take their rubbish to the park.

“The volunteers do a great job but within days the rubbish is back.”
