TRAFFIC has returned to normal following two separate incidents on the M4 around Newport this afternoon (January 15), which caused congestion and delays for motorists.
At approximately 2.30pm, the entry slip road on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 was closed at J24 (Coldra) while police and traffic officers attended to stalled lorry.

Diversions were put in place, and Gwent Police asked motorists to avoid the area if possible.

There were also reports that westbound traffic on the M4 had been slowing down as motorists passed the scene.
That incident was cleared at apporoximately 6pm.

And in another incident, shortly before 5pm, a second stalled lorry was reported on the westbound carriageway at the J29 (A48(M)) exit ramp.
The incident partially blocked the exit ramp, with traffic backing up to J28 (Tredegar Park).
Traffic officers were also in attendance at that incident, with traffic returning to normal after the lorry was recovered at 5.35pm.

In Newport, part of a major road was closed because of what witnesses called a "hit and run" on a pedestrian.
Gwent Police's Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
