A YELLOW weather warning for snow has been issued across several areas of Gwent.

The Met Office issued the warning tonight, and said higher-altitude areas most likely to be affected.

Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, and Torfaen are all covered by the warning.

It covers a time period between 8am and 1pm tomorrow.

The Met Office said: "A band of rain, sleet and snow will move eastwards across Wales during Friday morning.

"There remains some uncertainty in the timing and the extent of any snow, but there is likely to be a few hours where 2-4 cm of snow could accumulate on higher level routes, this chiefly above 250 metres."

With news cold weather was on its way, Welsh Water (Dŵr Cymru) is reminding residents to make sure water pipes in their homes and businesses are protected, to avoid the disruption and expense frozen pipes can cause.

Managing director Peter Perry said: “Frozen pipes which burst can cause unnecessary inconvenience and expense, which is distressing at this time of year. However, this can be easily avoided by taking a few moments to check and protect the pipes.

“Take a minute to insulate any outdoor pipes or taps or taps in a cold place like a loft or garage, fix any dripping taps, make sure you know where your stop tap is, and keep the number of a qualified plumber handy in case the worst happens."
