SOME street light columns have had to be removed from George Street Bridge in Newport for repair following an inspection.
Newport council says "issues were identified with the lighting columns".
"As a precautionary measure, Newport City Council has removed these columns for further testing and repair work to be undertaken by the column manufacturer," said council spokesperson.
The bridge remains open, and "other measures to support the use of the bridge at night will be introduced while this essential repair work is ongoing.
"Newport City Council apologises for any inconvenience these works may cause and would like to assure road users that every effort will be made to reinstate the lighting as soon as possible."
The testing and repairs are expected to take around eight weeks to complete.
