Gwent Police are calling on the public to be their “eyes and ears” as they renew a series of appeals for information to help them crack unsolved crimes and find two missing people, as IWAN GABE DAVIES reports

FROM an attack on a supermarket worker in Newport to a brutal early morning assault in Abertillery in which the victim's head was repeatedly stamped on by a stranger “with a Polish accent” just before Christmas, detectives need the public’s support to move investigations forward to unravel two serious offences.

Police are also hoping to trace a teenager from Blackwood who has been missing for eight months and a 50-year-old man from Pontypool who disappeared more than a year ago.

Chief Superintendent Marc Budden spoke about how important the public's help is to them.

He said: “Any assistance from our communities is always greatly appreciated and when it comes to assisting us with finding missing people and helping with appeals they are simply invaluable.

“They are our eyes and ears, having found missing people while going about their day and sometimes even providing the missing pieces needed to progress investigations.

“As Sir Robert Peel said, ‘The police are the public and the public are the police.’”

If you can help them, officers are asking you to call Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
