STRONG winds battering Gwent this weekend have left hundreds of homes without power.

In Monmouthshire, 421 homes were left without power just after 1pm on Sunday, while in Newport, 40 homes lost power from about 8.30am.

A Western Power spokesman said that at midday, there were 154 households across Wales without power.

South Wales Argus:

A weather warning had been issued throughout most of Wales for winds of up to 65mph.

The Met Office had issued a severe weather warning for strong winds covering both Saturday and Sunday, and winds of up to 65mph had been forecasted.

This was due to 'strong northerly winds'.

The weather may still cause disruption to those travelling, with delays for public transport and vehicles on exposed routes likely.

A speed restriction of 40mph has been in place all day on the M48 Severn Bridge because of the strong winds.
