FIRE crews attended a house fire in Caldicot this afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, three fire engines were in attendance at the property on Clos Rheidol, off Church Road.

At the scene, scorch marks could be seen around the upstairs windows of the property.

A police officer at the scene confirmed all occupants were safe, and that a local man had entered the burning property to rescue the family's dogs.

A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) said: "A call was received at 10:59am today with a report of a house fire in Caldicot. 

"Four appliances attended from Caldicot, Chepstow, Maindee and Duffryn. The fire was located over two stories across bedroom and attic space. 

"Two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one triple extension ladder and one 13.5m ladder were used.

"The fire was extinguished and positive pressure ventilation was implemented after the fire. Stop message was received at 2.20pm."

In a statement, a spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: "We were called at about 11am by the fire service reporting they were attending a fire in Caldicot on Clos Rheidol.

"We attended the scene and the fire service has advised that everyone is safe and out of the building."
