CHILDREN from local areas will be taking part in a prestigious concert next month.

The first Barnado’s Young Supporters’ Concert to be held in Wales will feature pupils from Rougemont School in Newport, Ysgol Panteg in Pontypool and Pembroke Primary School in Chepstow.

Campbell Dobbins, who is preparing the Rougemont pupils for the big day, said: “The chance to be involved in such a large-scale performance is exciting for our choir.

“We have been exceptionally busy learning songs, including well-known ones and completely new ones, such as Dreams of Africa and I am a Small Part of the World.

"Groovy Grandma is the children’s favourite; they have enjoyed putting their own actions to the song! It’s full steam ahead with rehearsals and we’re really looking forward to a fun filled musical night.”

South Wales Argus:

They will be among 600 children, aged 6 to 13, taking part in the concert at St David’s Hall. In previous years the concert has been held at Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican and Wembley Stadium.

South Wales Argus:

The concert, presented by Nia Roberts of S4C’s Choir of the World and conducted by Douglas Coombes MBE, will feature songs from musicals, including Mary Poppins, Shrek and Oliver.
