SNOW and ice is expected to dominate Wales until at least Friday night.

Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice throughout Wales, including Gwent, extended to affect the country over te next few days.

Today there is a risk of rain turning to snow, causing a risk of icy surfaces which can be a slipping hazard.

Although gritters were out last night those driving and walking are advised to be cautious, taking it slow to avoid danger.

This chilly weather is expected to worsen over the evening, with maximum temperatures of five degrees Celsius, and a minimum temperature of minus nine degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, there will be a frosty and foggy start to the day, with wind likely into the afternoon. Sleet and snow is expected, particularly in South Wales.

Travel times will likely to be influenced by this chilly weather, including possible rail disruptions. People are advised to take this into consideration when planning their journeys.

On Friday, more ice and snow is expected throughout the country, with a risk of black ice.

Black ice is transparent, making it harder to spot, but is a serious hazard so people should drive with extreme caution.

Other risks, as this weather worsens, are potential power cuts and issues with mobile phone coverage. Those in rural areas may become cut off as a result.

No weather warnings have been issued for this weekend, but temperatures are expected to remain low, with updates likely.
