PRIMARY schools in Caerphilly will be celebrating today after the number in the top green banding jumped from 33 to 41 this year, while the number of primaries in the red category went down by one.
The colour coded categories refer to the level of support needed by each school to improve.
Introduced in 2014, the National School Categorisation System, places schools into one of four colour-coded support categories to demonstrate the level of support they need - green, yellow, amber and red.
The Welsh Government say this system is not purely data driven but also takes into account the quality of leadership, teaching and learning in our schools.
The primaries to move up in to the top green bandings were Bedwas Infants, Cwm Glas Infants School Twyn Primary, Ty Sign Primary, Tynewydd Primary, Greenhill Primary and Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Allta.
No primaries moved from amber to yellow in Caerphilly, but Bryn Awel Primary did managed to move out of the red band up into the amber.
But, despite the good news, there were disappointing moves too.

Bryn Primary dropped two bandings from Green to Amber this year, while Tyn-Y-Wern Primary and Waunfawr Primary dropped a banding from green to yellow.
Upper Rhymney Primary and Crumlin High Level Primary found themselves in the amber band, dropping from yellow last year.
In the red category were Ysgol Bro Sannan and Llanfabon Infants School. Neither featured in last year's published results.
The outlook is not so rosy for secondary education is Caerphilly, where no school was awarded the top green banding for the fourth year running. The last school to earn the green status was Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni in the 4014 results. This year the school retained its Amber status.
Bedwas High School remained in the red category for the second year running.

But number of red school did decrease from two to one this year, with Islwyn High School moving up into the amber category.
The schools to drop into the amber band from yellow were St Cenydd School, Risca Community Comprehensive, Lewis Girls' Comprehensive School and Blackwood Comprehensive School.
In this years results, three secondary schools were assigned a yellow band, down from five last year.
Islwyn AM Rhianon Passmore welcomed the results in her constituency.
Ms Passmore said: “This system is not about grading, labelling or creating crude league tables but about providing support and encouraging improvement in our schools.
“It is about putting schools into a position that helps them to identify areas they can strengthen and what they need to do achieve further improvements.”

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Caerphilly Council’s cabinet member for education said, “We welcome the latest banding announcements and we will continue to work closely with our schools and the Education Achievement Service (EAS) to ensure appropriate support is available as and when required.”
“All schools will now take time to reflect on this latest information and we need to consider how to build on progress to date and deliver further improvements."
