CYCLISTS will unite to raise money for an important cause this year.

The Tour de Gwent is returning on Sunday, April 14, organised by St David’s Hospice Care and sponsored by various organisations including Whitehead Building Services.

Kicking off at Caerleon Comprehensive School – which will have changing rooms, secure bike park and baggage storage – the Tour de Gwent has six routes meaning there’s something suitable for all ages and abilities.

More than 750 people take part in this annual event, raising money for St David’s Hospice Care which provides care for patients and families in Newport, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and South and Mid Powys.

Routes are: Platinum (93 miles), gold (78 miles), silver (52 miles), bronze (30 miles), midi (20 miles) and kids (three miles).

Entry for the platinum, gold or silver is £60 which includes a jersey. The bronze and midi are £35 which includes a T-shirt. Kids entry for the three mile is free, but they must be supervised, and sponsorship is recommended.

The deadline for receiving jerseys ahead of the event is February 16. Entries after this will get their jersey following the Tour de Gwent. If you’d like to donate your entry fee in lieu of your jersey or t-shirt get in touch with organisers using the details below.

Participants must wear helmets and proceed with caution as the roads will not be closed, but the event will be marshalled.

Money raised from this huge cycling event will help St David’s Hospice Care provide: clinical nurse specialists, hospice at home nurses, welfare rights advisors, bereavement support (including for children), therapy outreach, family support. Funds will also go towards running their 15-room in-patient unit and four day hospices.

Routes start between 7.30am and 12pm, with cyclists to be back at Caerleon Comprehensive for refreshments and entertainment by 5pm.

Tiny Rebel Brewery will be at the finish line until 6pm, handing out free glasses of their award-winning drinks.
