NEWPORT Bus is offering free matchday transport to ticket holders for Newport County's clash with Manchester City on Saturday.

The FA Cup fifth-round tie kicks off at 5.30pm at Rodney Parade.

The company is making the gesture to acknowledge the dedication of County's fans.

Scott Pearson, managing director of Newport Transport, said: “After seeing the dedication of Newport County fans over the weekend queuing for hours in inclement weather, we would like to offer free travel to Newport County v Man City ticket holders on February 16 as a small token of our appreciation for their dedication."

He added: "As the City’s principal bus operator we would like as many ticket holders as possible to make use of this free travel to remove concerns over parking, allowing fans the ability to enjoy an afternoon/evening in the city centre restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars."

The showdown with Pep Guardiola's side is a worthy reward for Michael Flynn's men, who have seen off Wrexham, Leicester City, and Middlesbrough in the most recent rounds of the competition.

"This fantastic cup run has created a real buzz around the City and we hope to play a small part in adding to this fantastic atmosphere that will be carried into Rodney Parade for the big game,” Mr Pearson said.

Cup fever is building in the city – on Wednesday, the famous trophy went on a tour of two Newport schools.

On Saturday, match-goers have to show their Newport County v Manchester City tickets to the driver on Newport Transport bus services to receive free travel. All Welsh Government concessionary passes will be scanned as normal.
