THE South Wales Argus' War on Litter campaign has been shortlisted in the campaign of the year category in the 2019 Wales Media Awards.

Launched in July 2018, War on Litter aimed to raise awareness of the growing fly-tipping and litter plague in Gwent.

As well as highlighting problem areas, the campaign focussed - and continues to focus -on bringing readers positive stories about tireless volunteers, committed communities and innovative schemes.

The campaign inspired a number of new litter groups, and shouted about the unsung heroes who have been out there for years, working unseen to keep their little patches of Gwent free of litter.

Working with Keep Wales Tidy, we engaged with events, school and local authorities to celebrate everyone who makes a difference.

A huge thanks is owed to everyone who got involved, and to everyone carrying on the fight.

The awards will be presented at the Mercure Holland House Hotel, Cardiff, on 22 March 2019 hosted by BBC Cymru Wales presenter Lucy Owen and ITV Cymru Wales’ Jonathan Hill.
