THE seven-year-old Newport County fan whose new terrace chant went viral is set to lead the teams out later today.

A video of Lennon Jones fitting the names of his favourite Exiles players to the tune of The Archies' hit song ‘Sugar, Sugar’ was shared on Twitter by his mum, Claire, and drew responses from several County players and staff.

The club have now asked Lennon to be a mascot at their historic FA Cup tie with Manchester City this evening.

Mrs Jones said that Lennon was ecstatic when he heard the news.

“He was told last night,” she said. “He was ecstatic. It’s made his life.

“He can’t wait. He was up at the crack of dawn this morning.”

Before kick-off, Lennon will get the chance to meet the players, and could even walk out with his favourite players, Padraig Amond or Dan Butler.

But his mum said that he didn’t mind who he accompanied on to the pitch.

“It’s such a historical day for the club and he’s just over the moon to be a part of it,” she said.
