A PROFESSIONAL young chamber orchestra has a performance packed programme for March.

Sinfonia Cymru is embarking on a tour with bright young star, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who performed at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, at Windsor Castle, in May 2018.

The musician, who was BBC Young Musician Winner 2016 and Classical Brit Award Winner 2018, will join Sinfonia Cymru at concerts in Wales, stopping in Newport, Cardiff, Pontyberem and Mold.

Conducted by Jonathan Bloxham, Sinfonia Cymru will perform CPE Bach’s Symphony No 1, Haydn’s Cello Concerto, Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question and Beethoven’s Symphony No 1.

Mr Kanneh-Mason said: “I’m really looking forward to joining Sinfonia Cymru in March. It’s always inspiring for me to play with young musicians, and I’m really looking forward to performing with this wonderful orchestra!”

All four Welsh dates have sold out. If you missed out on tickets, fear not, as their Riverfront Theatre performance, on March 9, will be recorded by BBC Radio 3 for transmission on March 12.

Sinfonia Cymru will also perform with Sir Bryn Terfel at the Abu Dhabi Festival, on March 15, for a full-length concert performance of Tosca with the world famous Welsh baritone in the role of Scarpia.

They will play at Emirates Palace, conducted by Gareth Jones, and joined by Welsh Choir Côr.

The orchestra is also working, in collaboration with Mid Wales Music Trust, bringing song writing workshops to primary schools in Powys for a new concert programme, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, One Small Step: A Musical Journey to the Cosmos.

Finally, Sinfonia Cymru will host a concert in Tramshed Tech, Cardiff. The show #PeoplePlanetProfit explores issues around environmental sustainability and features a programme of new music created by Helen Wilson. The show will be on March 30 from 8.30pm.

This event will showcase emerging composers from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. To find out more visit: www.sinfoniacymru.co.uk
