AN INDIAN restaurant in Cwmbran previously handed a zero-hygiene rating has been re-scored and given the second highest rating after a recent inspection.

Tiffins Indian Buffet Restaurant, which is in Glyndwr Road, was given the lowest rating following an inspection by a food safety officer at the establishment in December 2018.

An officer had concluded that “major improvement was necessary” for both hygienic food handling and management of food safety, and that “improvement” was also necessary for cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

But following an inspection last week, officers decided to raise the restaurant’s hygiene rating to a four out of five.

A spokesman from Tiffins said he was “pleased” with the result, adding: “It only took us four weeks to improve our score.

“I want to say that there has never been any issue with our food.

“We should never have been given the last score.”

He added: “My only hope is that our loyal customers will continue to come here. Everything is home made.”

Any businesses given rating of zero are told that they must make urgent or major improvements to hygiene standards. The local authority food safety officer will use a number of enforcement tools as well as giving advice and guidance to make sure these improvements are made.
