AN 82-YEAR-OLD from Caerphilly county borough had the experience of a lifetime after getting to meet the Welsh squad at her first ever rugby international on Saturday.

Maureen McColl, from Fair View near Blackwood, was at the game with her sister after her brother-in-law was unable to make it.

After Wales’ 21-13 win, Mrs McColl was waiting in the stands while her sister went to get a drink.

A young couple were also waiting nearby to speak with Aaron Wainwright, who they went to university with.

Spotting Mrs McColl, the couple invited her down to meet the Welsh international and get her photo taken with the team.

She said: “I’ve never been to a game before in my life. I went with my sister as my brother-in-law was ill.

“We went for a little walk and for a drink after the game, I was waiting in the stands for my sister to come back with our drinks.

“A young lad and his girlfriend came and I got chatting with them about how it was my first game.

“They were meeting their friend from university Aaron Wainwright.

“Aaron came along I told him it was my first game. He asked if I would like to meet the team.

“It was wonderful. I have still got my ticket, I’m going to get it framed.

“They were lovely. I told them all how wonderfully they had played.

"When I was back in my seat with my sister, the young couple left past me, I thanked them both.

"The win was still the best part though."

Mrs McColl said that she would jump at the opportunity to go and watch Wales again, although this first game might be hard to follow up on.

"It will be hard to top that one," she said. "I’m 82 years of age and to have something like that happen to you at my age is amazing."
