YOUNG dance superstars KLA popped into a Gwent chippy to thank them for their support as they battled their way through a national TV competition.

The Newbridge-based dance group, made up of talented youngsters aged between nine and 11, reached the final of BBC’s The Greatest Dancer last month, finishing as runners up.

And they were backed all the way by Fish Kitchen 1854 and Chris Hayman Butchers, both in Maesycwmmer, which ran special menus and items to raise money for the group.

In total the two businesses raised £800 for the group, and the team visited Fish Kitchen 1854 on Saturday to say thank you.

Lee Humphreys, who owns and runs the chippy, said he had been inspired by the team’s success, and wanted to help make sure other young people had similar opportunities.

“Youngsters just need opportunities like this, and a bit of guidance,” he said.

“For those girls, the opportunities that will come for them now are endless.

"The sky’s the limit.

“And this is something which will stay with them for the rest of their lives."

And butcher Chris Hayman, who made a special KLA burger in the team’s honour, said: “Dancing can be quite expensive.

“There’s lots of kids who want to do it or something like it, so we thought if we can raise a bit of money for them it might help.

“Anything we can do to support local clubs like this is great - they’re so important.”
