A VENUE dishing up delicious delicacies to satisfy every sweet tooth is celebrating two weeks since it opened today.

Shaunas Sweet Treats opened its doors on Station Road, in Caerleon, on March 9 and has been welcoming people with a craving for sugar ever since.

Shauna Gilbert, who owns the business, said: “It’s been really good so far and really busy.

“I make everything in the shop, which includes cakes, brownies, pastries, macaroons, fudge, rocky road and more. But I specialise in celebration cakes.”

Despite the business only being open for a fortnight it’s already become popular, with people taking to social media to praise the new shop.

Nicola Teague posted: “If you haven’t already you really must try the new cake shop in the village – yum!

“The Rolo rocky road was so good that I saved half. I will definitely be coming back!”

Bry Derrett shared enthusiasm, commenting: “I completely agree. My daughter had a cupcake from there last week and it was beautiful.”

When asked why she decided to open her own business, Ms Gilbert said: “It was just out of boredom really.

“I’ve always loved baking and I started making cakes and needed more space.

“Everything is baked fresh daily, three times a day, to try and stop things selling out. It’s still early days so we don’t have a best-seller, everything is selling really well.”

Some of the sweet treats proving particularly popular are the brownies, with the cupcakes also proving a ‘big hit.’ Rocky road, which Ms Gilbert offers in a range of different flavours, are also flying off the shelves.

The celebration cakes are for special occasions, with a huge range of spectacular – and scrumptious – designs perfect for any celebration.

Ms Gilbert has plenty of experience with these elaborate creations, but finally has a venue to share them with the world.

Andrea Pritchard said: “Shauna made my son’s birthday cake in October and it was delicious. It tasted amazing and it was great value for money.”

The opening times are set to increase in the future but are currently based around Shauna’s other job as she finishes working her notice.

On Mondays, it is open from 11am to 4pm, then 11.30am to 5pm Tuesdays to Fridays and 11.30am to 3pm on Saturdays.

Ms Gilbert hopes to open earlier in the future.
