A MAN charged with manslaughter following the death of a farmer at a Gwent supermarket car park was released from prison on bail.

Timothy Higgins, aged 21, formerly of The Glade, Wyllie, Blackwood, is accused of killing 48-year-old Christopher Gadd.

He is alleged to have committed manslaughter at the Sainsbury's supermarket in Pontllanfraith on March 4.

Higgins is also charged with driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The defendant had been held in custody following his arrest but was granted conditional bail after appearing before Judge Neil Bidder QC at Cardiff Crown Court.

Higgins was released to live at an address in Warwickshire.

The defendant was represented by Huw Davies and the prosecution by Jason Howells.

A plea and trial preparation hearing date was previously set for April 29.
