THE weekend is here and there’s plenty to keep people busy in Gwent. Here are just a few exciting events taking place over the next few days.

South Wales Argus:

• An electro and alternate club night will celebrate two years this evening.

Port Electro will be from 7pm tonight at Pen & Wig in Newport, with Gary Numan tribute Pat Martin and Kraftwerk tribute Man Machine. Following this, guests can dance the night away to electro and alternative music from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

As always, the evening will raise funds for charity: the British Heart Foundation. Tickets are £5 from bit.ly/2V9ppZs or from Pen & Wig or Diverse Records.

• Celebrate Record Store day with plenty of free activities creating a buzz in Newport city centre.

Diverse Records have plenty of treats in store for music fans, with a free music and literature festival with vinyls on sale this Saturday.

Five venues - Le Pub, McCann’s Rock N Ale Bar, Slipping Jimmy’s Bar&Grill, Ye Olde Murenger House and Tiny Rebel Newport – will host a huge range of musical acts from 4.30pm.

Acts announced include: Queen Zee, Adwaith, Burning Ferns, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, CAMPFIRE SOCIAL, Christina Thatcher, CHROMA, David Llewellyn, Deathtraps, DINGUS KHAN, Eitha Da, Emily Gwyrdd, Finding Aurora, Francesca’s Word Salad, Gemini Anderson, Gintis, The Hard Aches, Joe Kelly, Los Blancos, Mass Envy, Oxygen Thief, Rainbow Maniac, Red Telephone, Richard Milward, and Tequila Slammers.

Ahead of this why not pop into Diverse Records, on Charles Street, between 9am and 4pm for your limited edition vinyl needs?

Kriminal Records, in Newport Market, will also be open with a stall next door selling cheap second hand vinyl, with the money going to the ASD school at Gaer Primary School.

Upstairs in Newport Market there will be a Record Fair open from 10am to 4pm.

• Support a good cause whilst enjoying a range of talent at St David’s Hospice Care’s Spring Concert.

This Saturday, at Risca Moriah Baptist Church, guest will be treated to a musical bill featuring Rogerstone Community Band, Risca Male Choir and Uckfield Concert Brass. This will raise funds for the vital work of St David’s Hospice Care.

• You’re sure to have a cracking time at the Easter ‘Eggstravaganza’ coming to Rogerstone this Sunday.

The day, organised by Rogerstone Primary PTA, will be at Ty Du Community Hall from 10am to 2pm. It includes a bake-off with Jon Jenkins judging, a dog show, an Easter egg hunt, arts and crafts, stalls and a raffle.

Application forms for the dog show can be picked up from Shampooches Dog Groomers, Rogerstone Primary School, or on the day.
