NINE people have been arrested following an incident in Tredegar on Thursday evening, in which a teenager received facial injuries and a puncture wound to the torso.

Police received a report of an assault at around 6.50pm yesterday evening in the Deighton Close area of the town.

The 19 year old male victim was involved in an altercation with a group of youths.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and is now recovering at home and receiving support from police officers.

Nine youths, all male, have since been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. One of those arrested is 14 years old, two are 15, four are 16, and two are 17.

All of them from are the Blaenau Gwent area, and all remain in police custody, helping officers with their inquiries.

“This was a violent incident which resulted in serious injuries for the victim," said

Blaenau Gwent Inspector Amanda Thomas, of Gwent Police.

"Thankfully (the victim) has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home, but this incident could have ended very differently.

"Officers are continuing with their investigation, but I would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident.
