NEWPORT Transport are among several business to have shown their support for our Marrow for Marley swab event being held this weekend.
On all 100 of its buses and its office windows in Friars Walk, posters are to promoting the event, which takes place at Newport Leisure Centre on Saturday in a bid to find a bone marrow donor for six-year-old Marley Nicholls.
Newport Transport managing director Scott Pearson said: “We are happy to be involved in such an excellent campaign for Marley, posters are on all our buses to help raise awareness for such an important cause.”
Other businesses to show support include Horton’s Coffee House, Celtic Vapour, Hounds Barbers, Bailey Care Services, Beams Sports and School Wear, Black Cherry Tattoo, Hetty’s Baby Boutique in Newport city centre, and Risca Workingmen’s Club, County Industrial Supplies in Cwmbran, C.O.B.R.A Music recording company, in Ebbw Vale, and Pontypool’s UskVale Financial Planning and Select Security Services, elsewhere across Gwent.
Marley suffers from A rare blood condition called aplastic anaemia, with our swab event the latest in the ongoing hunt to find him a donor.
Tens of thousands of people have signed up to the bone marrow donor register as a direct result of the Marrow for Marley campaign, but a match has yet to be found worldwide. Without one he will die.
Marley has undergone several blood transfusions and is currently receiving a clinical trial of a new treatment called immunosuppressant therapy which hopes to prolong the time to find a suitable bone marrow match by suppressing his white blood cells to allow his bone marrow cells to replenish.
If you would like a poster to display in your business or your local area, email Elizabeth.birt@newsquest.co.uk and you will be sent a PDF copy.
The swab event takes place The the Riverside Suite in Newport Leisure Centre between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.
