RECORD Store Day, which returned for its third year, was a roaring success.
The day celebrates the culture of independently owned record stores, with Diverse Records teaming up with Newport Now Business Improvement District (BID) to host a free festival throughout Newport city centre last Saturday.
The day kicked off with queues of people lined up outside Diverse Records, on Charles Street, before it opened hoping to buy limited-edition vinyls.
Newport Market was buzzing with activity, hosting a Record Fair upstairs, and Kriminal Records – based downstairs – open, with a pop-up stall next door offering discounted second hand vinyl to raise money for the ASD school based at Gaer Primary School.
Later, a range of bands and musicians rocked out in venues including McCanns, Le Pub, Slipping Jimmy’s, Tiny Rebel, and Ye Olde Murrenger House.
Joe Kelly performed and said: “We had a great time, and are grateful to the guys at Diverse Vinyl for having us.”
